PERSONALITY OVERVIEW: A smooth talker and confident conversationalist, Vinestar could be described as a feline Jay Gatsby. Charming, intriguingly eccentric, and playfully witty with a penchant for wordplay and sarcasm, he invites fascination from his counterparts. Keeping all subjects objective and unbiased, he manages to discuss any topic with neutral ease, making him popular among the opinionated. He has a strong interest in the behavior of his peers, and despite his laissez-faire attitude, can be very sincere and empathetic when confronted with the problems of his clanmates. He is, however, prone to cynicism, and openly questions StarClan for the prophecy that lead him to his position. Despite his external charm, Vinestar wrestles with insecurity and conflict—both highly influenced by the relationship he had with his father, Cliffstar. Vinestar is sometimes criticized for being lax on outsiders and trespassers, and some of his more militant clanmates believe he is too pacifistic to be a clan leader. Due to his self-esteem issues, Vinestar has a poor sense of self-preservation, and has been known to throw himself into danger needlessly. Though he is a very romantic cat, he doubts he will ever find a mate. He is known for assigning witty nicknames to cats he likes. Despite his reputation, Vinestar is actually a highly capable leader, and is very calm under stress, and tends to make very logical, informed decisions.

HISTORY: Vinestar’s history is a contentious one. To understand Vinestar, it is imperative to understand Cliffstar. Cliffstar was Vinestar’s father, and perhaps the most ruthless leader in TideClan’s history. Cliffstar was arguably an intelligent psychopath. He was highly manipulative, and completely self-absorbed. He often forced kits into apprenticeships too early, and was known for sending warrior’s he thought were weak or treasonous out to fight the many large predators that live on the island, typically resulting in their deaths. He was obsessed with having a legacy, and manipulated the young warrior Whirlcloud into becoming his mate by threatening her life. Whirlcloud gave birth to one kit—Vinekit. Cliffstar began “training” Vinekit from an early age and mentored him through his apprenticeship. It quickly became clear that Cliffstar’s perverse notions of loyalty and his bloodlust were of no interest to Vinepaw. So, the leader intensified his training, forcing his son to fight him one on one, claws unsheathed. Cliffstar worked hard to keep his son isolated from his peers and manipulated into helplessness. However, when Cliffstar ripped his son’s right ear in half in during a “training” session, Whirlcloud decided to stop the abuse once and for all. She hatched a plan to help Vinepaw escape TideClan. Together they would flee, and swim across the channel to the mainland. However, they were intercepted by Cliffstar, who killed Whirlcloud in front of Vinepaw. Vinepaw eventually became Vinespring, and upon his naming as deputy, a prophecy was delivered to the medicine cat: vines will cover the cliffs of evil that shadow our clan. 

Towards the end of his life Cliffstar became paranoid that all of his clanmates were traitors. He accused and attacked a warrior, who, Vinespring defended. Cliffstar fully intended to kill both the warrior and his deputy, until Vinespring ended the fight with a fatal blow to Cliffstar’s throat, thus ascending as leader. Vinestar is TideClan’s youngest leader in their history, and one StarClan has distinctly chosen to right his father’s wrongs.
